Microsoft beat on revenue and EPS, Alphabet missed on both, and AI spending is the real story. Here's the scoreboard and what it could mean for Bitcoin.
📊 Two of the biggest tech companies reported on the same night, and the market gave them opposite grades.
🟢 Microsoft beat. Revenue came in at $92.3 billion, up 19%, against about $90.6 billion expected. Adjusted EPS was $4.89 against $4.73. Azure grew 48%, ahead of the roughly 45% analysts expected. The stock rose about 4% after hours.
🔴 Alphabet missed. Adjusted EPS was $2.67 against $3.02 expected, and revenue was $127.58 billion against about $128.2 billion, its first miss on both lines in nearly four years. Google Cloud more than doubled to $30.7 billion and beat estimates, and Search grew 12%. The stock fell about 10% after hours anyway.
🧠 Why the grades differed.
Both companies are growing fast, so growth wasn't the problem. The bill was. Alphabet's free cash flow turned negative by $9.07 billion, it held its 2026 capital spending at $195 billion to $205 billion, and it said spending will rise significantly in 2027. Microsoft spent $39.4 billion on property and equipment in the quarter, more than double last year, with spending set to top $50 billion next quarter. The difference is that Microsoft's cloud growth and cash flow convinced investors the spending is paying off. Alphabet's didn't, yet.
🔗 Why crypto traders care.
Crypto has been trading with tech and AI sentiment lately. When AI-spending doubts hit stocks last week, $BTC slipped with them. This is a mixed signal, with one company showing the payoff and one showing the cost, so it doesn't point clearly in either direction.
✅ What this means for you
If you trade $BTC, watch how Thursday's tech open sets the tone for risk assets, and keep the Fed and PCE in mind too. Don't treat one earnings night as a crypto signal.
If you're on the sidelines, the useful lesson is that "beat or miss" depends on which numbers you pick. Alphabet grew 25% and still got sold.
If you hold long term, AI capital spending is the story to follow, since it affects both tech and risk appetite.
🟢 Bullish scenario
The market treats Microsoft's result as proof that AI spending pays off, tech stabilizes, and risk assets get relief.
🔴 Risk scenario
Alphabet's drop spreads doubts about AI spending, tech sells off further, and crypto follows risk assets lower.
👀 Three things to watch
1️⃣ Thursday's tech open: does Alphabet's drop hold, and does Microsoft's gain last?
2️⃣ AI spending: other companies' capital spending and cash flow
3️⃣ $BTC against tech: do they trade together after the Fed and PCE?
💡 The key takeaway
Microsoft beat and Alphabet missed, but the real score is who convinced investors their AI spending will pay off. That decides how risk assets trade next.
That is the part worth watching.
