Block proposers on the Taiko network now collect 100% of the L2 basefee, which is a notable increase from the former 75% rate. End users will not see any difference in costs, as they continue to pay exactly the same amount.
The real shift involves gas sponsorship. Previously, paying for another person's gas resulted in a guaranteed loss. Under the old 75% model, any proposer who covered user gas fees only recovered three quarters of their expenditure. Thanks to the new 100% rate, that round trip cost is now exact.
As a result, the protocol level hurdle preventing gasless onboarding on Taiko has been completely cleared. However, it is important to understand that this update simply removes the technical barrier and does not actually commit anyone to offering a gasless experience.
