📘 What are Order Blocks & Liquidity?

Liquidity is where stop-losses and pending orders pile up. Most traders put stops just under an obvious low or just above an obvious high, so those spots hold a lot of orders.

An order block is the last opposite candle before a strong move: the last red candle before a big rally (bullish order block) or the last green candle before a big drop (bearish order block). It shows where big buyers or sellers stepped in.

The two ideas work together. Price often dips under a low to trigger the stops first (a "liquidity sweep" or stop hunt), then turns fast from an order block. This week $BTC on the 4H chart gave a clean textbook example.

🔍 How to spot it

• Find clear equal lows or equal highs. Stops rest just beyond them

• Watch for a wick that pokes beyond that level and closes back inside: that is the sweep

• After the sweep, look for a strong move away with big candles and high volume

• Mark the last opposite candle before that move: that is the order block

• Draw the box from the candle's low to its high (some traders use only the body)

• Unused blocks are stronger. Every retest uses up orders

📈 How traders use it

• Entry: wait for price to come back to the order block, then look for a reaction candle

• Stop-loss: below the sweep wick (bullish) or above it (bearish). If that breaks, the idea is wrong

• Target: the next pool of liquidity, like equal highs above or the next bearish order block

• Check risk:reward before entering. Skip it if the target is too close

• Trade in the direction of the bigger trend when you can

🧪 Live example: $BTC 4H

• Liquidity: the Oct 8 low at $80,394 was an obvious floor, so stops sat below it

• Sweep: on Oct 15 one 4H candle wicked to $79,800, under that low, then closed at $82,418 (+1.8%, ~$524M volume)

• Bullish order block: the last red 4H candle before that rally, $80,851-81,585 (Oct 15, 08:00 UTC)

• Retests: price came back on Oct 16 (low $80,809) and Oct 17 (low $80,820). Both wicks dipped just under the box and closed back above it

• Those two lows are now equal lows, so a new pool of stops sits right under $80.8K

• Bearish order block: the last green candle before the Oct 16 drop, $82,290-82,941. From there BTC fell 1.6% in one candle

• Now: BTC ~$82,035, just above the 4H 20 EMA (~$81.9K), under the 50 EMA (~$82.46K), 4H RSI 50

• A 4H close above $82,941 breaks the bearish block. A sweep of $80.8K that fails to reclaim would put $79,800 back in play

⚠️ Common mistakes

• Calling every candle an order block. Only a strong move away counts

• Buying the moment price touches a block, with no reaction candle

• Placing the stop right at the obvious low, where the next sweep hunts it

• Ignoring the trend: bullish blocks in a downtrend fail more often

✅ Quick checklist

• Mark equal highs and lows first: that is where liquidity sits

• Wait for a sweep and a strong move away

• Box the last opposite candle before the move

• Enter on the first retest with a reaction candle

• Stop beyond the sweep wick, risk only 1-2% per trade
