@SeiNetwork is lining up a sequence of upgrades under its Giga programme, with the aim of reaching 200,000 transactions per second (TPS). The first step is SIP-3, which will make the chain EVM-only by removing its older Cosmos code. Two new engines, Eidos and Ares, designed to store data and run transactions under heavy trading, are still in progress. Autobahn, a new way for validators to agree on blocks, follows and is the piece Sei calls most critical.
SIP-3 clears the way for Giga
SIP-3 is a governance proposal that Sei Labs submitted in May 2025 to deprecate CosmWasm and native Cosmos transactions in favour of an EVM-only design, according to Sei's announcement. The proposal specifies that only EVM addresses can initiate transactions on the network, per the proposal text on GitHub.
Sei describes SIP-3 as the "weight reduction" ahead of Giga. In its own blog post, the project said the change will remove hundreds of thousands of lines of code from the protocol and that Sei will be an EVM-only chain once the transition is complete. The cost is a migration for users and developers: Cosmos-native assets and CosmWasm contracts need to move to EVM equivalents.
Eidos, Ares and Autobahn
According to Sei's documentation, Giga will ship as a series of in-place upgrades to the live network rather than as a new chain. The same page lists the SIP-3 consolidation and the Ares execution rebuild as in progress, with Autobahn testnet and mainnet marked as coming soon.
The Giga roadmap splits the work across three layers. Reporting on the roadmap by KuCoin News describes Ares as the execution client upgrade and Eidos as the state management upgrade. It describes Autobahn as the consensus layer, targeting 200,000 TPS and 400ms finality.
Sei's docs say that more than 5 gigagas per second has been sustained on an internal devnet. The 200,000 TPS figure is a separate roadmap target for the Autobahn testnet, not a measured mainnet result. For traders, the relevant test is whether the network can hold that throughput and fast finality on a live chain once Autobahn is deployed. Sei has not set a firm date for that stage.
