Most crypto traders keep their eyes on $BTC And honestly, that makes sense. $BTC often sets the direction for the entire market.

But there is another chart I think deserves more attention: ETH/BTC.

Here's why.

📉 $ETH is showing some relative weakness

On October 13, one market report put Bitcoin down around 2.1% over 24 hours, while Ethereum was down approximately 3.7%. That means ETH was falling faster than BTC during that period. [Source: CoinGabbar, October 13, 2026]

And this is exactly the kind of detail traders can miss when they only watch dollar prices.

So, what is ETH actually telling us?

🔍 1. Watch the ETH/BTC ratio

This chart compares Ethereum's value against Bitcoin.

If ETH/BTC rises, Ethereum is gaining strength relative to Bitcoin. If it falls, BTC is outperforming ETH.

Even if both coins are going up, ETH can still be the weaker asset. That's an important distinction.

⚠️ 2. Don't assume an ETH recovery means altseason is coming

Ethereum has often been watched as a signal for broader altcoin sentiment. But one green candle doesn't confirm a trend change.

I would want to see the ETH/BTC ratio start forming higher highs and higher lows, supported by stronger trading volume, before getting too excited.

💰 3. Pay attention to capital flows

Recent reporting has also highlighted outflows from US spot crypto ETFs, including Ethereum products. That is another reason to pay attention to demand instead of relying on price action alone.

Still, ETF outflows don't automatically mean ETH must fall. Market conditions can change quickly.

🎯 My personal takeaway

I'm not saying Bitcoin is guaranteed to outperform Ethereum, or that ETH is a bad investment.

I'm saying that looking at both charts gives us a more complete picture.

BTC tells us a lot about the overall market direction.

ETH/BTC helps us understand whether Ethereum is keeping up—or losing ground.

Sometimes, the most useful signal isn't the coin going up or down. It's the coin quietly getting stronger or weaker compared with the market leader.

What do you think?

Will ETH regain strength against BTC, or will Bitcoin continue to lead the market?
