A Japanese company just SOLD 10,000 Bitcoin — then bought 11,000 back at a HIGHER price.
Metaplanet, Japan's biggest corporate BTC treasury, closed Q3 holding 44,000 BTC worth about $3.8 billion. The math: it sold 10,000 BTC at $78,925 on average, then repurchased 11,000 at $86,246.
Why? The firm says it held the cash briefly to prove it could cover its debt — and it is now capping bitcoin-backed borrowing at 10% of reserves while pushing income investments to 10–15% of assets.
The sharp part: that 44,000 BTC cost $4.33 billion to build ($98,454 average). It is now worth roughly $3.8 billion. The stack is underwater — and management is tightening risk instead of doubling down.
Is this what a mature bitcoin treasury looks like?
