A few months ago, Zcash dealt with a serious counterfeiting vulnerability involving the Orchard shielded pool. The flaw was patched, and the Zcash team says there is no evidence it was exploited.
But that leaves an uncomfortable hypothetical…
What if counterfeit $ZEC had actually been created during the vulnerable period?
If it had, those coins could theoretically enter the market later — potentially becoming exit liquidity as price rises.
Again, there’s no evidence that this happened.
Zcash’s turnstile mechanism was used to check the supply, and the official update reported no detected inflation.
But now look at the price.
From roughly $250 to around $1,550+.
That makes the hypothetical much harder to ignore.
