Bitcoin orgin and journey
Bitcoin (BTC) is the first successful decentralized digital currency. Its journey began with the idea of transferring value over the internet without a central bank or intermediary.
🟠 Key milestones
2008 — Bitcoin introduced: An individual or group using the name Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin whitepaper, “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System.”
2009 — Network launched: The first Bitcoin block, called the Genesis Block, was mined on January 3, 2009.
2010 — First famous purchase: 10,000 BTC were used to purchase two pizzas, an event now remembered as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
2011–2013 — Early adoption: Bitcoin began attracting developers, exchanges, merchants and investors. Its price crossed $1 and later reached the hundreds of dollars.
2017 — Major mainstream attention: Bitcoin reached almost $20,000, followed by a major bear market.
2020–2021 — Institutional era: Institutional interest increased significantly, and BTC reached a new all-time high of about $69,000 in November 2021.
2022 — Crypto bear market: Bitcoin fell sharply along with the broader cryptocurrency market.
2023–2024 — Renewed adoption: Institutional participation grew, and in January 2024 the U.S. approved spot Bitcoin ETFs.
2024 onward: Bitcoin increasingly became viewed both as a digital asset and as a potential “digital gold”/store-of-value asset, while its network continued operating through its decentralized mining system.
