what is Zcash?
Zcash is a decentralized digital currency. Like Bitcoin, transactions are recorded on a public blockchain, but Zcash has an important additional feature: users can choose privacy-enhanced transactions.
How does the privacy work?
Zcash uses a technology called zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs).
Very simply:
You can prove that a transaction is valid without revealing all the information behind it.
Depending on the type of transaction, Zcash can potentially hide:
Who sent the money
Who received it
How much was sent
This is different from a typical Bitcoin transaction, where the transaction information is publicly visible on the blockchain.
Why do people buy ZEC?
Some people use or hold ZEC because they believe privacy will become increasingly valuable in digital finance. Others trade it because, like other cryptocurrencies, its price can fluctuate substantially.
However, privacy does not mean complete anonymity. Exchanges, wallets, blockchain analysis, and legal requirements can still create ways to connect activity to users.
