🇺🇸 Fed latest update — Sept 16, 2026

FOMC meeting is happening today, with the policy decision scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET and Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Markets are strongly expecting a 0.25% rate hike, which would take the federal-funds target range from 3.50–3.75% to 3.75–4.00%.

The main reason is persistent inflation. August CPI was reported at 3.4% year-over-year, above economists' 3.3% expectation.

Treasury yields are also a major issue: the 10-year yield has moved above 5%, increasing borrowing costs and complicating the Fed's policy decision.

The bigger market question is what Warsh signals about future hikes. A hike today could be a one-off move or the beginning of further tightening, depending heavily on inflation and oil prices.

🪙 Crypto impact

For #BTC /#ETH /#SOL , the key event is not only the rate decision but Warsh's comments and the Fed's projections. A more hawkish outlook could pressure crypto; a less-hawkish message could reduce that pressure.
