💥 UK police seize 20.21 BTC linked to defunct darknet markets
Avon and Somerset Police have forfeited 20.21 BTC, along with other crypto assets and bank funds, with a combined value of £1.03 million ($1.4 million). Investigators traced the assets to darknet marketplaces that operated between 2016 and 2019 and have since been shut down by law enforcement.
The investigation involved specialist crypto tracing and financial analysis. Police said the assets were determined to represent proceeds of crime and were therefore recoverable under the UK’s Proceeds of Crime Act. The case is the force’s largest cryptocurrency seizure since crypto wallet freezing orders were introduced in April 2024.
