Why I Opened a Long Position on $ONG After Spotting Negative Funding

The crypto market is full of signals, but every now and then, one catches my attention immediately. This time, it was the negative funding rate on $ONG

As soon as I noticed that shorts were paying longs during the upcoming funding period, I started paying closer attention to the chart. A negative funding rate often suggests that a large number of traders are positioned on the bearish side of the market. While this doesn't guarantee a price reversal, it can indicate that short positions are becoming crowded.

That was enough to make me consider a contrarian trade. Instead of following the crowd, I opened a long position on $ONG, looking for a potential bounce if bearish sentiment became overextended. Negative funding rates are often watched by experienced traders because they can reveal market positioning and the possibility of a short squeeze when momentum shifts.

Of course, funding rates should never be used as a standalone indicator. Price action, volume, support and resistance levels, and overall market conditions remain critical factors in any trading decision. Even when funding turns negative, prices can continue moving lower if sellers remain in control.

My trade on $ONG is based on the idea that extreme market sentiment often creates opportunities. When most traders are leaning heavily in one direction, the market sometimes moves the other way. That's why risk management remains my top priority, regardless of how strong a setup may appear.

For now, I'm watching closely to see whether the bears can maintain control or whether the negative funding setup will trigger a stronger recovery. One thing is certain: moments like these are what make crypto trading both challenging and exciting.

Trade smart, manage risk, and never rely on a single indicator.
