🚨 Trading Mistakes (Part 3): Chasing High Leverage
When I first discovered Futures trading, I was blinded by the promise of quick wealth. I started using 20x and 50x leverage, thinking I could double my account in a few hours. It only took one sudden market wick to liquidate my entire position. I learned the hard way that high leverage is a shortcut to liquidation, not riches.
Here is the brutal lesson I learned from this dangerous mistake:
📌 i. Leverage Multiplies Risks, Not Just Profits
I used to think 20x leverage meant 20x profit. In reality, it meant that a tiny 5% move against me would completely wipe out my capital. Today, I treat leverage with extreme respect and strictly keep it under 3x to 5x.
📌 ii.High Leverage Destroys My Technical Analysis
With high leverage, my liquidation price was always too close to my entry. Even if my long-term analysis was 100% correct, short-term market noise or a sudden wick would liquidate me before the price moved in my direction.
📌 iii.Survival is More Important Than Speed
The market is a marathon, not a sprint. Using low leverage allows my trades room to breathe and protects my capital from unexpected volatility. I realized that making steady, consistent gains is much better than gambling my account away.
