I’ll be honest, I went into TermMax expecting another lending protocol where the only thing worth checking was the APY. That's pretty much how I've looked at DeFi lending for a long time. If yields went up, I stayed. If they dropped, I moved my funds. Simple.
After digging into it for a while, I caught myself thinking, "Wait. maybe I've been looking at this the wrong way."
The fixed-rate part wasn't what changed my mind. What actually stuck with me was the idea of turning lending into a clear agreement. I know what I'll earn, the borrower knows what they'll pay, and both sides know when it ends. That feels less like chasing numbers and more like planning capital.
Then another thought hit me.
What if I suddenly need my funds before maturity? That's where the conversation gets interesting. A fixed return sounds great until liquidity becomes the problem.
That's why I spent more time reading about Smart Unwind than the advertised yield. To me, that's the real challenge. It's easy to promise certainty. It's much harder to offer certainty without trapping liquidity.
I'm still not ready to say fixed rate lending is "better" than traditional DeFi lending. I think they're solving different problems.
For me, the biggest thing I'll be watching isn't the APY anymore.
It's whether TermMax can make predictable returns and flexible liquidity work together. If they can pull that off, that's the part worth remembering.
