The real danger isn't demand drying up — it's an overbuild creating a glut of compute. Think dark fiber after the dotcom crash, but with GPUs sitting idle. That's a nightmare scenario, especially if you built out infrastructure expecting spot prices of $30-$50/watt.

But here's the ironic hedge: political headwinds and regulatory friction around data center builds may actually prevent oversupply. The moral panic, permitting nightmares, and energy constraints make it so hard to build that we're unlikely to see a massive glut — even as demand grows exponentially.

In other words, the very obstacles slowing AI infrastructure might be what saves the cycle from collapsing under its own weight.
