I went through Dusk’s technical docs again last night, and honestly, the deeper I got, the less I cared about the usual “fast and private” narrative.
What really caught my attention were the trade-offs behind the design.
Phoenix uses ZK proofs to keep transaction details private, but Dusk still seems to leave room for verification and auditing. That made me wonder how this would actually work in a regulated environment. Who gets to see what, and when?
Kadcast also got me thinking. Using a Kademlia-based structure to reduce unnecessary message sharing sounds efficient, but does that efficiency introduce new risks around network influence or isolation?
And then there’s the consensus side.
Dusk’s committee-based PoS and deterministic selection make me wonder what happens if more stake ends up concentrated in the hands of a few large players.
The more I read, the more I think the real question isn’t simply:
“Is Dusk private?”
It’s whether Dusk can stay decentralized and secure while privacy, efficiency, regulation, and institutional participation all grow together.
That tension is what makes the project interesting to me.
