While there is some crossover between the two positions, validators and reporters actually serve distinct functions. The primary responsibility of a validator is to maintain consensus across Tellor itself. In contrast, a reporter is tasked with bringing in the specific information that ultimately transforms into oracle values. Before you can step into the role of a reporter, you must first participate in staking. You can accomplish this either by operating a validator yourself or by delegating your stake to an existing one. Through this setup, both the safety of the chain and the accuracy of the data rely on the exact same economic foundation.
