I almost closed the tab yesterday because I couldn't convince myself that using BTC as collateral was actually different from just selling a small amount and buying it back later. That felt easier. Less to think about.
Then I spent more time looking at Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) from @BabylonLabs_io, and the trade-off shifted.
One decision changes a lot of small habits.
The interesting part isn't that Bitcoin can stay in self-custody. It's that I stopped viewing idle BTC as something with only one acceptable state. For years, "doing nothing" felt like the safest strategy. Once I started thinking about using the same BTC as collateral instead of selling it, I realized the friction wasn't technical anymore. It was mental.
TBV lets native Bitcoin be used as collateral without wrapping, bridging, or handing it to an intermediary. That part I understand. What I'm less sure about is whether I'm actually ready to treat my BTC as something with a job, instead of something that just sits there.
I don't mind opening a position. I do mind adding another thing that occasionally needs attention.
I still think that's healthier than selling BTC every time liquidity is needed.
Maybe.
I haven't reached that point myself yet, and I'm curious whether that feeling changes after a few months instead of a few days on the testnet.
