The idea was to create a high-speed, low-fee blockchain that could handle thousands of transactions per second (TPS).

2018 — Development Begins

Yakovenko teamed up with Greg Fitzgerald and Raj Gokal.

They built Solana Labs in San Francisco.

A testnet was launched, demonstrating over 250,000 TPS in internal testing.

2019 — Testnet & Funding

Solana raised $20 million+ from investors like Multicoin Capital and Foundation Capital.

Public testnet “Tour de SOL” launched, inviting validators to test the network.

Major DeFi, NFT, and Web3 projects launched on Solana (like Serum, Raydium, Magic Eden).

2022 — Network Challenges

Solana faced several network outages due to bot spam and performance issues.

Price dropped during the crypto bear market.

2023–2024 — Recovery & Growth
