Google DeepMind researcher warns Al may 'kill us all' in exit noteAn artificial intelligence researcher who recently resigned from Google DeepMind said on Monday that the technology does have the potential to cause widespread harm to humanity. Bilal Chughtai, who until recently served as a research engineer at Google Deepmind, expressed concern over the trajectory of AI, and that superintelligent systems that far exceed human capabilities were possible in the next few years and could prove dangerous. “I earnestly believe that AI has the potential to kill us all, and that we might be running out of time to avoid this outcome,” Bilal said in posts on X and Linkedin. Their warning is the latest in a host of AI researchers warning on the dangers of unfettered AI development and its implications for humanity. Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon said last week he had resigned in part because of the potential dangers posed by AI. Over the weekend, Anthropic head Dario Amodei published an essay calling for more regulation of AI models, while also calling for a slowing in the pace of development. Several other major AI heads, including xAI’s Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, immediately endorsed Amodei’s proposal. Altman separately said that OpenAI was postponing its initial public offering to beyond 2026 due to concerns over AI safety and regulation. But U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said the U.S. already had guardrails in place to regulate AI companies, while also calling Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during a summit in Los Angeles to promote building data centers $GOOGLB {spot}(GOOGLBUSDT) $NVDAB {spot}(NVDABUSDT) #AI #killusall
