[HTX recovers $8 million in stolen funds and issues 250 ETH bounty to hacker]
Crypto exchange HTX announced that it had successfully recovered the funds that were hacked in late September after crisis management, and awarded 250 Ethereum as a reward.
The company lost 5,000 ether from its hot wallet on September 25 and was valued at about $8 million at the time. After the incident, HTX quickly contacted the hacker, hinting that it had learned its identity, and finally promised to pay $400,000 (5% of the total amount) as a reward to ensure that 95% of the stolen funds could be returned before October 2.
Brother Sun posted on the X platform on October 7: "The hacker made a wise choice, and we are grateful for the industry's support." He emphasized that ensuring blockchain security and user assets has always been their top priority.
According to blockchain security firm Immunefi, there were 76 hacking cases in the third quarter of 2023, compared with only 30 in the same period in 2022. In the same week as HTX, the cross-chain protocol Mixin Network also suffered a loss of approximately US$200 million due to a hack of a third-party cloud service. While Mixin Network is offering $20 million as a reward in hopes of returning the funds, the chances of success are slim.
U.S. National Security Advisor Anne Neuberger told Bloomberg that North Korean hackers may be behind the Mixin attack, believing that the methods used this time are similar to previous North Korean patterns.
