The device, scheduled for its complete debut on November 9, has generated significant anticipation for its integration of projectors, cameras and AI technology, effectively functioning as a wearable AI assistant. Supermodel Naomi Campbell made an appearance as the first individual outside the company to publicly sport the Ai Pin, adding a touch of celebrity glamour to the occasion.

The Ai Pin, as described by Humane is a “screenless, standalone device and software platform purpose-built for AI.” Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, it features a mini-projector that replaces the conventional smartphone screen, a camera and a speaker. Key functionalities include AI-powered optical recognition. Moreover, it embraces a “privacy-first” approach, aiming to refrain it from continuous “always-on” listening.

The Ai Pin initially showcased in May at a Ted Talk by co-founder Imran Chaudhri, known for his significant contributions to the iPhone user interface, garnered attention.

Although the device remained undisclosed at the time, Chaudhri demonstrated several futuristic features —- including projecting information on his hand while taking calls. He showcased its capacity to perform English-to-French translations through AI-driven language processing, all in his distinctive voice. One notable feature of the presentation was the “Catch Me Up” function, providing users with summaries of missed news and information. This feature appears to draw inspiration from the “The Entire History of You” episode of Netflix series Black Mirror, which explores a world where memories can be recorded and replayed. Certain technical details about the device’s internet connectivity still remain ambiguous, as it does not rely on smartphone pairing. Furthermore, compared to traditional smartphones, discerning the unique advantages of Ai Pin proves challenging.
