Shein's finally heading to Hong Kong for its IPO, and everyone's lining it up against Temu. Here's how I see it.

Shein is the straight-up fashion play. They design, run the supply chain, and drop new styles nonstop. Temu (under PDD) is the huge marketplace that sells basically everything cheap - home stuff, gadgets, clothes, all of it. Shein is closer to a digital Zara, Temu is closer to a bargain Amazon.

On the numbers:

Shein pulled in about $41.8 billion in revenue in 2025, growing 8%. Profit fell hard to $2 billion, and they even booked a loss in Q1 2026. Growth slowed down.

PDD (Temu's parent) is bigger and still throwing off real cash - around $64 billion in recent TTM revenue and over $13 - 14 billion in profit. Market cap is around $127 - 131 billion right now.

The real gap is valuation. Shein's coming to market at around $25 - 30 billion (some talk is closer to $22 - 25 billion). That's a huge drop from the $100 billion private mark they had before. PDD is already public and priced much higher because it has the China core business plus Temu.

Both are getting hit by the same stuff: loss of the U.S. de minimis exemption, new EU charges, higher shipping, more competition. It shows up more in Shein's numbers right now because it's more focused on fashion and cross-border parcels.

My view:
Shein gives you direct exposure to ultra-fast fashion at a cheaper entry price. But growth has cooled and margins are under pressure.
PDD is the more established, diversified, already-profitable name. Safer in a bunch of ways, but not a clean "fashion growth" play.

They're competitors, but not copies. Shein wins on style and speed of trends. Temu wins on price and product range. For the IPO, it really comes down to whether investors buy the idea that Shein can rebuild margins and get growth going again after the tariff hit.

That's my read.
