Friends who have a securities account in Switzerland, take note—you may soon be able to place an order directly in your banking app for a “physically backed” spot Bitcoin ETF, without buying coins yourself or managing private keys.

A few points that matter to everyday investors 👇

🔹 Product: BIT Asset Management’s Bitcoin Fund ETF, ticker BBIT; approved by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) on October 20. Established under Swiss law and available to ordinary investors—not just qualified investors.
🔹 Listing: Expected to begin trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange in November 2026. The exact date has not yet been confirmed officially. Once listed, both institutional and retail investors should theoretically be able to trade it.
🔹 Whether and where you can buy it: Public distribution is currently approved only in Switzerland. Overseas banks and brokers can participate in trading via SIX, but whether they can sell it to you depends on the regulations in your country or region. Even Swiss customers will have to wait for their bank or broker to add the security and complete the technical setup before it appears in their app.
🔹 How it differs from common European ETPs: Most European Bitcoin products are debt-based structures and carry issuer credit risk. BBIT is a Swiss collective investment scheme, with the underlying Bitcoin held in custody separately from the manager’s assets, so the protections in the event of bankruptcy differ.
🔹 FINMA also granted a rare exemption, allowing the fund to invest entirely in Bitcoin. It emphasized that even through an approved ETF, Bitcoin remains highly volatile and investors could lose a substantial portion of their principal. Sellers must provide risk disclosures under the Financial Services Act, and suitability assessments are also required when providing investment advice or managing assets on a client’s behalf.

Put simply: this is about the rules for whether you can get spot Bitcoin exposure through a bank or brokerage account, and in which country it can be publicly offered—not a signal that prices are about to rise. The things to watch are the exact November launch date, whether your bank’s app lists it, and whether the scope of public distribution expands.

Would you wait to buy an ETF through your bank, or keep holding Bitcoin yourself?
