If they don’t submit a license application by Friday, can crypto platforms in Brazil keep operating? The answer is written into the central bank’s rules.
Brazil’s Central Bank Resolution No. 520 gives platforms that were already providing virtual asset intermediation or custody services locally on February 2 a 270-day window: Phase 1 authorization applications must be submitted by Friday, October 30, 2026. Local media outlet Carta Circular, citing regulatory sources, reports that around 20 applications had reached the central bank by the deadline, with officials expecting close to 40. They have also made clear that the deadline will not be extended.
A few points that matter directly to everyday users 👇
🔹 Submit on time: Platforms can continue operating while their applications are reviewed, but cannot temporarily add new types of regulated business. From the date of submission, they must also report customer records, end-of-day balances, custody positions, and monthly proof of reserves to the central bank.
🔹 Miss Friday’s deadline: They must discontinue the relevant services within 30 days after the deadline—that is, by around November 29. This is not a grace period to “slowly submit the missing documents.”
🔹 Starting November 6: Institutions already authorized by the central bank, such as banks and payment providers, generally cannot conduct or facilitate transactions with crypto service providers that are “neither authorized nor in the process of obtaining authorization.” Local fiat on- and off-ramps may become more selective about their counterparties.
🔹 “Application submitted ≠ license granted”: According to reports by Valor and others, Binance submitted an SPSAV application on October 23 through its local entity, BBrasil. But that only means it has entered the review process; it is not an approval.
Put simply: this week, check whether the Brazilian platform you usually use appears on the “submitted” list. Platforms not on the list and not covered by transitional arrangements may first face tighter restrictions on withdrawals, fiat deposits and withdrawals, and placing orders. Has the platform you use publicly said it has applied before Friday?
