Holy crap, has Google just pushed Bitcoin’s “quantum doomsday” closer? ⚛️

Google just announced that a technique called “magic state cultivation” has successfully run on its Willow quantum chip.

A few key numbers:
🔹 Quantum computing error rates were cut by about 40 times
🔹 Accuracy reached 99.99%, setting a new record
🔹 Morgan Stanley also said the same day that quantum computing could become a $100 billion market

Why should crypto be worried? Q-Day is the day quantum computers become powerful enough to crack today’s widely used encryption algorithms. Bitcoin’s private-key signatures rely on these algorithms for protection.

The biggest weakness of quantum machines has always been “too many errors, not accurate enough.” Now, with error correction improving 40-fold, practical use is one step closer. Just a few days ago, Coinbase called for Bitcoin to “start now” on a post-quantum upgrade. Google’s latest breakthrough just added fuel to the fire.

My take: Your wallet isn’t going to be cracked tomorrow, but this is no longer a “sci-fi topic.” Bitcoin consensus upgrades are slow by nature, and the window developers have may be shorter than people think.

Do you think Bitcoin can complete a post-quantum upgrade before Q-Day? Or is this just another round of fearmongering? 👇
