Whoa, Hyperliquid doesn’t want to take down Wall Street—it wants to “sell shovels” to it? 🧑💻
Founder Jeff Yan just appeared on Bloomberg’s Odd Lots podcast and laid out his vision plainly: Hyperliquid isn’t trying to replace traditional financial institutions; it wants to provide them with the underlying technology for trading.
More importantly, here’s what he had to say about U.S. regulation:
🔹 Hyperliquid’s L1 should be treated as financial infrastructure, not as a traditional exchange
🔹 Compliance responsibility should fall on the companies that deploy on-chain and operate markets—the party that controls the market is responsible
🔹 The protocol itself should only provide shared liquidity and a trading layer
This isn’t just talk. Bloomberg reported that Kraken parent Payward plans to use Hyperliquid’s technology to offer derivatives to U.S. investors through a regulated exchange.
But don’t forget: Hyperliquid is still not available to U.S. users.
Put simply, the idea is to follow a “blockchain as the highway, brokerages as the cars” model: highways don’t issue licenses, but cars need to be licensed to drive. If it works, $HYPE could go from an on-chain perpetuals DEX to Wall Street’s matching engine.
Do you think U.S. regulators will buy it? 👇
