Around 10:30 this morning, $BTC plunged through 81,000 in a huge red candle, while $ETH also fell below 2,400. In just 10 minutes, about $350 million in long positions were liquidated.
The bigger picture is even more painful: nearly $1 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated across the market over the past 24 hours. And this time, Ethereum longs took the hardest hit, with about $286 million in ETH liquidations—more than BTC’s $197 million.
At the time of writing, BTC is trading around 81,100 on Binance spot, down about 2.7% over 24 hours, after dipping as low as 80,226. ETH is around 2,367, down more than 5%, with a low of 2,318.
ETH falling harder than BTC suggests there were too many highly leveraged traders piling into longs. In a wick-heavy market like this, the biggest risk isn’t the drop itself—it’s being all-in and trying to tough it out with leverage.
