MultiversX suspended its mainnet on September 20, 2026, after confirming an attacker attempted to exploit a virtual-machine-level atomicity flaw that caused invalid on-chain state changes, according to PANews and TechFlow. To prevent further damage, the network halted block production entirely, with the incident coming shortly after MultiversX had activated its Supernova upgrade, which cut targeted block time from six seconds to 600 milliseconds. The team said the attack has since been contained, with the attacker's accounts identified and frozen through coordination with major exchanges, per ETHNews. Engineers have prepared a fix and are testing it in a shadow fork — an isolated copy of the live network used to replay real mainnet history and confirm the patch works before it touches actual user funds.
