Vietnamese Authorities Issue Warning Against Using Pi for Transactions
Vietnamese police have issued an official warning regarding the use of Pi Network cryptocurrency for payment transactions. In a Facebook announcement, authorities cautioned that the increasing use of Pi for everyday payments is illegal and could lead to sanctions or criminal prosecution.
According to current laws, virtual currencies are not recognized as legal tender in Vietnam, meaning that any entity accepting Pi as payment may face legal consequences.
Fines and Criminal Charges Could Apply
Vietnamese authorities have stated that using Pi for payments could result in strict penalties:
🔹 Businesses or individuals accepting Pi could face fines ranging from 50 to 100 million VND.
🔹 In severe cases, violators could face criminal prosecution for breaching banking regulations.
🔹 The penalties are outlined in Article 6, Clause 26 of Decree 88/2019/ND-CP and Article 206 of the Criminal Code.
This warning comes in response to a growing number of businesses and traders in Vietnam accepting Pi as a payment method, in a country known for one of the highest crypto adoption rates in the world.
Vietnamese Authorities: Pi Is Not a Recognized Asset
The Vietnamese government does not recognize Pi Network as a legitimate asset, stating that its value is purely speculative. Regulators have highlighted concerns such as:
📉 Pi has no real intrinsic value.
📉 Scammers could exploit it for fraudulent activities.
📉 Fake tokens and scam apps could steal user data.
Authorities also warned against spreading false or misleading information about Pi and other cryptocurrencies:
🛑 "It is prohibited to spread false and unverified information in cyberspace regarding virtual currencies, cryptocurrencies in general, and Pi specifically, as it could mislead the public or lead to legal violations."
The Ministry of Cybersecurity urged investors to be cautious and thoroughly research all available information before making any investments.
Pi Network Drops 17% in 24 Hours
The Pi token plunged 17.6% in the last day, now trading at $1.73. Despite this drop, it has gained 21% over the past week, largely due to listings on OKX, Bitget, and MEXC exchanges.
However, the project remains under heavy criticism due to:
❌ Lack of listing on major exchanges.
❌ Low transparency from the Pi Network team.
❌ Issues with KYC verification, preventing users from claiming their tokens.
In response to user concerns, the Pi Network team has extended the mainnet migration deadline to March 14, 2025, giving users more time to verify their balances and complete the migration.
What do you think? Does Pi Network have a future, or is it just another questionable project? 🤔
