Representative Guy Reschenthaler (Republican) has recently revealed a series of cryptocurrency purchases. This 41-year-old lawmaker currently owns cryptocurrencies like XRP (linked to Ripple), Solana (SOL), and Bitcoin (BTC), with each transaction ranging from $1,000 to $15,000. Additionally, Representative Mike Collins, also a Republican, disclosed the purchase of Ski Mask Dog (SKI) earlier this year.

In addition to Reschenthaler and Collins, other lawmakers such as Barry Moore (Republican) and Jeffrey Jackson (Democrat) have also publicly disclosed notable cryptocurrency transactions in recent times. Back in 2021, the Wall Street Journal reported that there were 11 members of Congress who owned cryptocurrency, including nine House representatives.
At the same time, the U.S. Senate has also decided to establish a dedicated committee on digital assets. This committee will be led by Senator Cynthia Lummis (Republican), who is known for proposing legislation to require the U.S. Treasury to purchase up to 1 million Bitcoin within five years. This 70-year-old senator has revealed that she first invested in Bitcoin in 2013 and made another purchase in 2021.
On the House side, the House Ethics Committee has issued a memorandum from 2018, requiring House members to disclose the amount of cryptocurrency they hold if it exceeds $1,000. Previously, lawmakers' cryptocurrency transactions were not disclosed due to regulations that only required the disclosure of stocks and bonds, but did not include new assets like cryptocurrency.
The disclosure of such transactions as required by law is essential to determine whether lawmakers are engaging in activities related to cryptocurrency.
Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat) has recently expressed the view that lawmakers investing in cryptocurrency creates a 'serious conflict of interest,' while also expressing satisfaction that the number of Congress members currently owning cryptocurrency remains relatively low.
