The truth is that purchasing power has dropped due to high tax burdens, and the minimum wage can't handle the high taxes on the stuff that the Brazilian people need. After all, it's so much easier to hike taxes under the guise of wanting to help by lowering income tax, but in the end, it's just a vicious cycle to try and hold onto power.
