The history of money is the history of trust. From the grains and metals of prehistory to the gold-backed banknotes of the 19th century, each stage has been a social contract. As Laura Moresi writes in Criptomonedas: un ensayo para pensar:
"This trust in banknotes was given by a promise of payment...".
Today, that promise has been transformed into the blockchain, a distributed ledger that guarantees traceability and security. The key is no longer made of metal or paper: it is algorithmic.
