ZEC security grant scope expansion greenlit | Constant-time review still pending delivery | I’m not chasing $1,233 My stance is neutral but cautious: security engineering is worth keeping an eye on, but I don’t treat a funding update as a vulnerability already fixed or as immediate buying pressure. I checked Binance Square first. Neither the current Trending Topics nor the six-hour Most Searched list had an exact trending tag directly related to ZEC, so I won’t borrow an unrelated hot topic for this post. The genuinely new information comes from the public Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) forum: Eryx had previously been approved to review constant-time behavior in librustzcash, with an initial proposal of $10,000. The team then proposed expanding the review to include dependencies such as zcash_note_encryption, sapling-crypto, orchard, zip32, pasta_curves, and zcash_spec, updating the budget to $25,000 and the timeline to around 8 to 10 weeks. In September, ZCG asked for the revised milestones to be completed; on October 9, it responded to the new follow-up with “No objection, please proceed.” The GitHub application page also shows that the application was approved for the requested amount of $25,000. It’s important to be clear: the committee allowing the expanded work to proceed does not mean that all code reviews, tests, and upstream merges have been completed. Why does this matter for ZEC? The core trust in a privacy coin depends not only on zero-knowledge proofs, but also on implementation details such as wallet scanning, decryption, and key handling. If the execution time of a secret-related code path varies with the secret value, it could theoretically create a side channel. The proposal first aims to spell out the threat model, identify which paths need to be constant-time and which may intentionally use variable-time behavior, then use compile-time constraints and statistical timing tests to prevent regressions. This is not an announcement that Zcash has suffered a key leak, nor does it mean that every function will be changed to run in constant time. For traders, the follow-up milestones that can actually be verified are a public PR, maintainer review, test results, the final merge, and a release. A single forum reply is not enough to price in a security premium. How has the market reacted so far? When I checked, the latest Kraken ZEC/USD trade was around $1,233, with a rolling 24-hour high of about $1,241 and a low of about $1,210. The price is near the top of the range, but there is no evidence linking this rise to the October 9 funding reply. For now, $1,241 is the upside confirmation level; if price holds above it on strong volume, the next level to watch is $1,260. On the downside, first watch $1,218, then $1,210. If price breaks below $1,210 and a rebound fails to reclaim $1,218, my short-term recovery thesis will be invalidated. Unlike my previous ZEC discussion of the Zcon7 agenda, this post is only about the delivery risks of security implementation; it does not present forum approval as a mainnet launch. If I were trading this myself, I wouldn’t chase the move here. I’d only consider a small long position in the direction of the trend, capped at 3% of my total trading capital. The entry trigger would be a convincing breakout above $1,241, followed by a retest that holds $1,238–$1,241, with no significant drop in volume. I’d take half off at the first target of $1,260, reduce again at the second target of $1,280, and use a trailing stop for the remainder. The hard stop would be below $1,210. If price quickly fell back below $1,230 after the breakout, or if an official follow-up clarified that the expansion had not been implemented, I’d close the position early. If no trigger occurs, I’ll stay flat. The maximum risk per trade is 0.25% of my account; I won’t use high leverage. This is a plan, not a record of a trade already executed.
