Coinspeaker Nick Szabo Overtakes Len Sassaman as Leading Satoshi Nakamoto Candidate on Polymarket
Every now and then, the debate over who Satoshi Nakamoto is takes on a new twist. That is, as everyone tries to uncover the true identity of the Bitcoin founder. In the latest twist suggested by new betting odds on Polymarket, however, a new candidate in the person of Nick Szabo may have emerged. This development comes only a few days before HBO’s upcoming documentary about Nakamoto.
The documentary is set to air at 2:00 am UTC on October 9. However, the general public appears to have agreed on the opinion that Szabo may be the most likely creator of Bitcoin. That is, considering the fact that Nick Szabo now has overtaken previous frontrunner, Len Sassaman.
HBO Documentary Influence on Betting Odds
The upcoming documentary has caused some stir already, sparking up renewed discussions around the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. In addition to the growing discussions, producer Cullen Hoback may also have added more fuel to the fire with his recent claims.
Hoback appeared on CNN on October 7 and claimed that he had confronted the real Satoshi in person. This claim builds up even more anticipation for the documentary as keen observers wait earnestly to see how much of a reveal would be made in it.
About odds and probabilities, Len Sassaman, the cryptographer who passed away in 2011, previously led by a wide margin of 68%. However, with Hoback’s recent statements and his widow stating that HBO never approached her, the odds have suddenly plunged to about 14%.
In a direct contrast, the odds for Nick Szabo have surged exponentially. Szabo is a computer scientist and cryptography expert. As of this publication, odds that Szabo is Nakamoto stood at 27.9% on Polymarket.
Meanwhile, it might be worth noting that the scientist has repeatedly denied being the elusive Bitcoin founder. However, his past work in digital currencies makes him a very good suspect.
Other Satoshi Nakamoto Candidates
Presently, Szabo is leading the race. However, there are still some prominent names in the running. Names such as Adam Back, Hal Finney, and Paul Le Roux, the controversial programmer, who is currently serving time in prison.
There are just a few hours left before the movie is officially released. So, it remains to be seen whether or not HBO did carry out a thorough investigation to uncover Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity.
Whatever the case might be, the documentary might not be a final answer to the agelong questions. As many believe, only an announcement from Satoshi himself could prove to be enough evidence.
