CoinDCX Hack – India’s Biggest Crypto Breach
CoinDCX, India’s largest crypto exchange, was hit by a cyberattack in July 2025, resulting in a theft of ₹368 crore (~$44 million). The hackers exploited session token manipulation and weak IAM policies, gaining admin-level access to withdraw funds silently over multiple sessions.
To aid recovery, CoinDCX launched an $11M bounty program encouraging global white-hat hackers and security firms to track stolen assets. Chainalysis and TRM Labs are actively monitoring fund movements across anonymizing mixers and bridges.
Adding to the drama, Coinbase has reportedly entered acquisition talks to buy CoinDCX at a steep valuation drop of 54.5%, citing “platform with regional trust but technical debt.” This would give Coinbase a key entry point into India’s booming crypto market, despite recent government taxation hurdles.
Insight: Even large exchanges can fall if session tokens and admin access are not segregated and monitored via anomaly detection.
