Australia has passed its crypto law and is now writing the details. Parliament approved digital asset legislation in April. The country's securities regulator has now put out proposed standards for crypto platforms and is asking for feedback before the rules take effect in 2027.

The draft covers three areas: how much capital platforms must hold, how they look after customer assets, and the standards they follow when running trading.

Exchanges that serve Australians should use this window to object to anything unworkable. Once the standards are final, compliance costs get locked in, and smaller operators will probably feel that more than the large exchanges. Anyone with a stake in that market should comment now, while the regulator is still taking feedback.
