A strong crypto rebound is useful information — but the structure behind the move matters.
BTC pushed above $87K before cooling, while the broader crypto market rebounded sharply. One detail deserves attention: roughly $844M in short positions were forced out during the move.
That creates an important distinction.
A short squeeze can accelerate price very quickly because bearish traders are forced to buy back positions. But sustainable upside eventually needs something more: persistent demand after that forced buying fades.
The macro backdrop makes this especially interesting. Markets are still pricing meaningful odds of another Fed rate hike, so financial conditions have not suddenly become easy.
For me, the next signal isn't simply whether $BTC prints another green candle. It's whether Bitcoin can hold strength once liquidation-driven buying subsides — and whether participation broadens into assets such as $ETH and $SOL .
Are we seeing the beginning of a broader risk-on move, or did the short squeeze simply bring future demand forward?
