Total Value Locked in DeFi Reaches $225 Billion in 2025 Amid Stablecoin Boo

The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector has reached a new all-time high in Total Value Locked (TVL), hitting $225 billion in 2025, surpassing the previous peak of $204 billion in 2021. This growth has been driven primarily by the rising prominence of stablecoins, with the combined market capitalization of USDT and USDC exceeding $260 billion.

Despite these impressive figures, experts note that attention is shifting toward stablecoins and simpler yield-generating products, reflecting users’ preference for more accessible financial tools. The increase in DeFi TVL has also been accompanied by a notable shift toward yield-bearing stablecoins and real-world assets (RWA), which have attracted more than $20 billion in value.

Analysts highlight platforms such as Aave, Ethena Labs, and Pendle Finance as leaders in offering straightforward yield-based products. These developments indicate a growing demand for simplicity and security in DeFi, as users increasingly seek easy-to-understand returns rather than complex financial instruments.
