Solomon could have asked for longer life, wealth, or victory over his enemies. In 1 Kings 3:9, he asked instead for an understanding mind. Status can look like wisdom while leaving other people to carry unseen costs.

God, free leaders and builders from choosing what looks impressive over what serves people faithfully. Give us humility to ask who bears the downside of each decision and courage to change course. Amen.
