#Eth2.0 also known as #Ethereum 2.0 or Serenity, is the next major upgrade to the Ethereum #blockchain network. It aims to address some of the scalability, security, and energy efficiency issues faced by the current Ethereum network.

The main feature of Eth2.0 is the shift from a #proof-of-work (PoW) consensus algorithm to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithm, which is expected to greatly increase the network's efficiency and scalability while also reducing its environmental impact.

In addition, Eth2.0 will introduce shard chains, which are smaller chains that run in parallel with the main Ethereum chain and enable faster transaction processing and greater network capacity. It will also include improvements to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and other technical upgrades to enhance the platform's functionality and usability.

The Eth2.0 upgrade is being rolled out in phases, with the first phase (also known as Phase 0) launching in December 2020. This phase involved the introduction of the Beacon Chain, a new blockchain that runs parallel to the existing Ethereum blockchain and serves as the backbone for the PoS consensus algorithm.

Further phases will introduce shard chains, which will increase the network's capacity, and eventually merge the existing Ethereum blockchain with the new Eth2.0 infrastructure. The full transition to Eth2.0 is expected to take several years, with the goal of creating a more scalable and secure platform for decentralized applications (dApps), smart contracts, and other blockchain-based services.
