⚠️ $BTC Long-Term Security Challenge Is Coming Into Focus: Quantum Computing

AI may have just pushed one of Bitcoin’s biggest long-term security questions closer to the spotlight: quantum computing.

More than 100 participants, including teams using AI agents, took part in the ECDSA Fail challenge.

The goal? Optimize a quantum circuit related to secp256k1, the elliptic curve Bitcoin uses for digital signatures.

And the result was significant. 👀

🔹 Previous resource score: 10.75 billion
🔹 New resource score: 1.496 billion
🔹 Improvement: ~86%

⚠️ This does NOT mean quantum computers can break $BTC today.

Current quantum hardware remains far from the scale needed for a practical attack.

What changed is the efficiency of the theoretical approach.

AI agents helped researchers discover ways to dramatically reduce the quantum resources required, highlighting how AI could accelerate progress in areas that traditionally relied on slower, manual optimization.

For Bitcoin, this raises an important long-term question:

How quickly should the network prepare for post-quantum cryptography? 🔐

Quantum risk may still be years away, but research like this shows why the timeline deserves close attention.

Do you think Bitcoin should start preparing for post-quantum security now? 👇
