Former FBI agent Patrick Steven Yaroch admitted stealing about $2.47 million in cryptocurrency and pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering on November 5. According to Foresight News, the U.S. Department of Justice said Yaroch used credentials obtained through his position to make about 100 fraudulent transfers involving 35 separate investigations.

The stolen assets came from wallets controlled by investigation subjects and hostile state actors, as well as at least one wallet the FBI created for an operation. Court documents say Yaroch concealed the funds’ origins through asset conversions and repeated transfers, and used some of the money to pay personal debts. The Justice Department said his conduct damaged investigations and related intelligence sources and methods. Sentencing is scheduled for March 4, 2027, and Yaroch faces up to 20 years in prison.
