US Market Watch: Nonfarm Payrolls and VST Earnings Take Centre Stage Tonight 📊

There are two major things to watch tonight: the US October Nonfarm Payrolls report and Vistra (VST) earnings. Markets expect 65,000 new jobs, up from 29,000 in September. A stronger-than-expected report could push rate expectations higher, putting pressure on high-valuation tech and AI stocks.

For VST, the key focus isn’t revenue but adjusted EBITDA and whether the company updates its full-year guidance to include the Cogentrix acquisition and its long-term Meta power agreement. Its current 2026 EBITDA guidance stands at $6.8B–$7.6B. The East segment is particularly important because long-term nuclear power contracts offer more stable growth than relying on seasonal electricity prices.

In my opinion, tonight’s market reaction will depend on two things: interest rate expectations and the outlook for AI power demand. Strong employment data could create short-term pressure on VST and other high-valuation stocks. However, the long-term demand for reliable electricity from data centres remains a compelling growth story. Short-term volatility doesn’t necessarily mean the bigger investment thesis is broken.
