JUST IN: Donald Trump is now reportedly considering firing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, actively asking advisers in person and by phone whether he should remain in his position following the Republicans’ catastrophic midterm losses.

Multiple sources familiar with the matter say Trump is seeking his inner circle’s views on Hegseth’s future. This comes after he reportedly asked allies to assess Hegseth’s recent performance and began considering him as a potential scapegoat for the Republican defeat.

Some White House aides predict the blame for Tuesday’s GOP wipeout will also fall on Adm. Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, both of whom played major roles in advising Trump on the Iran war.
