French lawmakers want hardware and software wallet holders to tell the tax office about large balances.
• Amendment I-2701 passed 150 to 44, with 8 abstentions, on November 3
• Self-custodied wallets worth EUR 100,000 or more on December 31 would have to be declared
• It is not law yet: it still has to survive the 2027 budget process and the Senate
Why it matters: It would extend French tax reporting to hardware and software wallets, not just exchange accounts.
