A man tried to deposit AU$100 into Cryptocom, but the exchange accidentally sent his partner AU$10.47 MILLION. They bought houses, transferred MILLIONS overseas, and were caught seven months later.

> In May 2021, Jatinder Singh tried to deposit AU$100 into his Cryptocom account using his partner's bank account.

> The exchange rejected the deposit because the names didn't match and attempted to refund the money.

> But an employee made a mistake in an Excel spreadsheet, entering his partner Thevamanogari Manivel's bank account number into the payment amount field.

> Cryptocom accidentally transferred AU$10,474,143 into her account.

> Singh discovered the money the next day and told Manivel to move it into their joint account.

> They began spending it on houses, cars, artwork and furniture.

> Around AU$4 MILLION was also transferred to a bank account in Malaysia.

> Manivel later bought a four-bedroom house in Melbourne worth AU$1.35 MILLION and transferred ownership to her sister, who lived in Malaysia.

> Cryptocom only discovered the error in December 2021, during an internal audit, seven months after the transfer.

> The exchange took legal action to recover the money.

> In August 2022, a court ordered Manivel's sister to sell the house and return the proceeds.

> Manivel pleaded guilty in 2023 and received an 18-month community corrections order.

> Singh pleaded guilty in 2024 to stealing approximately AU$4.4 MILLION and was sentenced to three years in prison.
