When you're new to crypto, it's easy to focus on stories about people making money.
But the more I learn, the more I realise how important it is to understand the risks first.
Here are three mistakes I want to avoid.
1. FOMO buying
FOMO means "Fear of Missing Out".
In crypto, it happens when you see a coin rising quickly and feel you need to buy before the price goes even higher.
Maybe everyone on social media is talking about it. Maybe people are sharing screenshots of their profits.
That excitement can make a risky decision feel urgent.
But just because a coin has increased in price doesn't mean it will keep rising.
Buying because everyone else is excited isn't the same as understanding what you're buying.
2. Investing without research
A coin might have an attractive name, a professional website or thousands of social media followers.
None of those things guarantees it's a good investment.
Before considering a cryptocurrency, it's worth understanding what the project does, who is developing it, how its token works and what risks it carries.
It's also important to check information from more than one reliable source.
A popular coin isn't automatically a safe coin.
3. Ignoring risk management
Crypto prices can move quickly, and losses can be significant.
One mistake beginners can make is putting in money they may need for everyday expenses.
Another is assuming that a price will recover simply because it has fallen.
Risk management starts with understanding that you can lose money.
That means avoiding borrowed money, thinking carefully about how much you can afford to risk and not making decisions based on panic or excitement.
What I'm learning
I don't think beginners need to rush into trading just because cryptocurrency is popular.
Understanding what you're buying, checking information and recognising risks seem like better starting points.
I'm taking my time learning before deciding whether to invest.
