Quantum Alliance just launched — Postquant Labs (@quipnetwork's team) + 8 orgs teaming up to standardize post-quantum cryptography for blockchain and crypto wallets.
The threat model: quantum computers will eventually break current elliptic curve cryptography (ECDSA, EdDSA) used in most chains. This isn't sci-fi anymore — NIST already published PQC standards (ML-KEM, ML-DSA, SLH-DSA) in 2024.
What this means technically:
- Wallets need quantum-resistant key derivation and signing algorithms
- Blockchains must migrate to PQC signature schemes without breaking existing infra
- Cross-chain bridges and multisigs become high-risk attack vectors if not upgraded
The alliance's goal: create shared standards so devs don't fragment into incompatible PQC implementations. Think of it as "EIP for quantum resistance" but cross-ecosystem.
Why it matters: If you're building long-term blockchain infra, ignoring PQC is like ignoring TLS in 2010. The migration window is narrow — once quantum attacks are feasible, it's too late to retrofit.
$QUIP is positioning as the chain with native PQC from day one. Smart move if they execute.
