DeepSeek just open-sourced DeepInfer — the internal inference framework powering their V4.1 Flash model. This is the actual production stack they use to run models at scale, not some watered-down demo.
What's inside:
• Optimized compute kernels
• Distributed inference
• Speculative decoding
• Scheduling tools to cut latency and power draw
Currently supports Nvidia SM100 GPUs and Huawei Ascend 950. More hardware support coming.
Why this matters:
Inference = the expensive part of running AI at scale. Most big labs keep this proprietary. DeepSeek is giving it away under Apache 2.0.
Open AI infrastructure is heating up. Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp already let devs run models locally. Now you get the production-grade backend too.
Hugging Face data shows smaller models dominate downloads because they run on normal hardware. DeepSeek is betting on devs who want control, lower costs, and no API lock-in.
Caveat: This isn't plug-and-play for consumer rigs. It's built for scale. Cache management and load balancing not included yet.
But the shift is clear — open infra is becoming a real alternative to OpenAI/Anthropic/Google APIs. Cost and control are driving adoption.
If you're building AI apps and tired of burning cash on cloud inference, this is worth a look.
